The architecture of La Grange highlights the wild charm of the site. Perched on top of a ridge and bordered by the surrounding forest, this prestigious two-story chalet offers breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River.
Inspired by the traditional regional barn, this familiar shape is entirely clad in vertical metal siding. Three volumetric cutouts create the entrance and the two terrace spaces. These breaks in the main volume are accentuated by a wood cladding that evokes the protective bark of a tree.
The chalet is rooted in the basement, where wood and concrete walls define the game room and children's dormitory. On the main floor, the fully wood-clad entrance opens onto 4 large luxurious bedrooms, each equipped with a full bathroom. The staircase, like an aerial spine, leads to the living spaces overlooking the forest and surroundings. From the inside, the windows precisely frame the landscape, the mountains, and some of the more mature trees.
The common area on the upper floor is very welcoming and bright. White cedar, generously covering the walls and ceilings, tints the light. The mirror effect of the radiant concrete floor reflects daylight and draws the eye outward. The numerous windows open onto a near-panoramic view of the landscape and the surrounding forest. The impressive cathedral ceiling and the strategically placed fireplace at the center of this open-plan layout unify the different activity areas—reading, cooking, conversations, dining, etc. At night, the warmth of the fireplace and the soft lighting darken the ceilings and create a warm and mysterious atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Quebec gatherings.
Photos labeled “Hameau | Common Area” are of the shared pavilion, which you have free access to when renting this chalet. You have access to a swimming pool and a tennis-basketball court.
